RC 15

Straight out of Amsterdam, we bring you Marcel Vogel. We are pleased to get to know this guy a bit better. He kicks this soulful mix off with some head nodding pieces, slowing it all down with some heavy grooves until bringing the energy back up again. Marcel being a big music lover and record collector this is what it’s all about. As he calls it: rhythmic freedom for Rhythm Cycles – get ready to sweat.

RC 15 — Marcel Vogel — 15.02.2012 by Rhythm Cycles

Hey Marcel, thank you so much for your mix tape. Let us get going with some questions people can read while listening to the great tunes.

Hey Mads, thanks for having me.

Recently you have started your own label Lumberjacks in Hell. So far you have released edits from yourself and a few other people. Could you tell us about your approach and use of edits?

My approach is very simple, I release what I like. The first one was the infamous Miss You edit that I had put up on soundcloud and I got so much love for it that I felt I wanted to have that on vinyl. Vinyl is my favourite format (though not the only one) for DJing, mostly because I like the handling and the inspiration that I can draw from it. Continuer la lecture

RC 14

Yo Folks! Our 14th Podcast brings us to Madrid to discover the new post-rave-dub-techno scene leaded by Esperanza’s label main figure Papol. Guided by Moritz Von Oswald’s musical legacy, his love for nature, minimalistic (but definitely efficient) studios and long time friends (aka Kasper, Franco Cinelli, Jorge Savoretti), our talented spanish mate answered to our few questions… Wanna know more about it? Follow the swiss guide…

RC 14 — Papol — 20.09.2011 by Rhythm Cycles

Holà Papol ! Such a pleasure to have you here on RC. You have been running that hot, deep & dub label called Esperanza for some time now. Could you tell us about it? How did it begin & who’s involved? Genevan people know Kasper for his DJ-sets at Weetamix. Are you kind of best friends?

First of all, thank you for this space and let me speak about our projects, even more speaking about me. Esperanza is a project initially started by Kasper and me in 2005, we pretended to offer the music that we used to mix at clubs, giving our own view of electronic music at that time. For our 13th episode we have label-boss and record collector Underground Paris with us. In this podcast he brings us a nice little selection of some of his favourite records — from dutch film music passing over 68-style rock to 70′s soul music. Thank you so much for giving us this insight of your record collection.

RC 13 — Underground Paris — 19.07.2011 by Rhythm Cycles

Alright here we go, so as some of you know, I manage a Deep House label focused on the ‘early 90′s New Jersey’ vibe (that’s called My Love Is Underground). Besides that I have an interest into loads of different music styles and it’s been some years now that I started diggin into Rare Grooves, le’ts try to describe that by ‘any kind of good music made mostly in the 70′s’… Continuer la lecture

RC 12

For this 12th podcast we have the pleasure to invite you to visit the universe of System Status. A set showing the raw influences and likes of this new and upcoming producer. Soon releasing his second EP titled ‘The Detroit Urban Gardening Ensemble’ this is definitely an artist to keep an eye on in the future.

RC 12 — System Status — 28.06.2011 by Rhythm Cycles

Your concept projet ‘The Detroit Urban Gardening Ensemble’ took inspiration and samples from the documentary ‘Requiem for Detroit’. Could you tell is a bit more about this process?

I actually laid down an idea for the drums, bass and some other samples prior to watching ‘Requiem for Detroit’. I used a sample from a Vangelis track of a car skidding which I thought quite cliche and cheesy at first, but upon seeing the documentary that explored Detroit’s history and feeling very inspired by it, the car skidding sample started to make sense.
